Man-70-remanded in Kirikiri prisons over rape of 16-yr-old teenager

Mr Kayode Oshakoya is to spend the next 25 days in prison for allegedly raping a 16 year old teenager, an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court ruled yesterday, in Lagos. Oshakoya, 70, was remanded in Kirikiri Prisons pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Earlier, Police prosecutor Christopher John, told the court that the accused committed the offence with others at large on June 18, at his residence. John said the girl went to visit the accused, who is a family friend, saying on getting there, the accused had an unlawful sexual intercourse with her. He said the girl narrated everything that Oshakoya did to her to her father immediately he returned from work. “The accused was arrested and handed over to the Police,” John said. The offence contravened Section 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The case has been fixed for July 30 for mention. 

ATM: New tactics that fraudsters have devised that might get you into serious trouble.

You know as technology advances, so shall we be mindful of how we go about them so as to be safe.
A staff of a Nigerian bank shares recent experience from his customers and they are not the kind of experience anyone will be praying to have. Below are some of the things he wrote:

I work as a Support Staff for a commercial bank, and I have witnessed this New Crime case twice this week alone!!! This fraud usually occurs at the ATM galleries. An 18-year-old customer and another ‘rich’ adult customer were victims and now they have their BVN flagged for live and have cases to answer with the Police, and with their bank accounts on Post-No-Debit.

This is how it works;

1. You walk to an ATM and someone (fraudster) approaches you. The person may show you wads of cash and claim they have exceeded their withdrawal limit of 150k, and that they still need more cash. They then plead to make a money transfer into your own bank account so that you can withdraw it for them.

 2. The TROUBLING thing in this seemingly harmless random act of kindness is that transfers are usually made from STOLEN PHONES or HACKED BANK ACCOUNTS!!!

 3. The person who owns the bank account which the money transfer was initiated from would report to his bank, and the bank would send out a circular to the recipient’s bank with instructions to be carried out – which usually includes freezing your own account, BVN flagging, and on most times an order for your apprehension.

 4. The next thing you would discover is that the next time you try to use your ATM card to withdraw, your transactions will be unsuccessful.

 5. You then go to your bank and you get the news. You will thank your stars if there’s no MEMO to apprehend you and hand you over to the Police immediately – for something you surely don’t know about. You may be advised to quickly go get a Police Report. The 18-year-old boy was sent to withdraw money from his bank account by his Mom. On getting to the ATM, he was held at gun point by the fraudsters and the money transfer was made, money withdrawn, and he was released. The money here was 40k. The boy was advised to report himself to the Police, and he should follow up with the bank. The adult customer was approached respectfully by a fraudster brandishing loads of cash. So, he felt at ease and ‘helped’, not knowing he had been exposed for flagging. Here, the amount of money involved was 50k. The customer who has about 1 million naira in his bank account has now been undone because of 50k he knows nothing about. Now, there’s a MEMO to have the customer arrested anytime he steps into any of the bank branches. Who knows if the stolen phones were acquired via One Chance armed robbers or the bank transfer details were supplied by Serial Hackers? This is a serious criminal issue. Remember, if you have your BVN flagged, then you are so done with any legal financial dealings. DO NOT HELP ANYBODY AT THE ATM!!! NOT EVEN AN OLD FRIEND, CHURCH MEMBER OR WHATSOEVER. SAY NO TO STRANGERS WHO APPROACH YOU FOR ANY TRANSFER FOR WITHDRAWAL AT THE ATM. Imagine getting locked up over money you know nothing about other than helping someone to withdraw.”

Breaking: Mikel Obi’s father kidnapped & rescued in Enugu forest

The police on Monday rescued the abducted father of Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, in Enugu.
A statement issued by spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said Pa Michael Obi and his driver, Ishaya John, were kidnapped last Friday along Makurdi – Enugu Road.

The statement read:‎

“The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force through its operatives of the 9thmile Division on Monday at 2:30 p.m. rescued Pa Michael Obi and his driver one Ishaya John unhurt in Egede udi forest of Enugu State along old Egede Affa Road in Enugu.

“They were rescued hale and hearty and Pa Michael Obi and the driver have rejoined their family. It was gathered that Pa Obi was allegedly abducted along Makurdi -Enugu road in the afternoon of 29/6/18 on his way from Jos in his grey colored Toyota pardon jeep with registration number MUS 604CG and taken to unknown destination through the thick forest part of the area.

“It was further gathered that the abductors started calling to demand a ransom of N10 million before the operatives acting on intelligence information swooped on them where a gun duel ensued. This forced the hoodlums to abandon their victims inside the forest and they were promptly rescued.

Breaking! Biafra: “Lock Your Shop For IPOB Sit-At-Home, Lose It Forever” – Governor Umahi warns!

DAVID Umahi, Ebonyi State governor has threatened to deal with traders in the state who obey the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB).

It is the tradition of Pro-Biafra groups to always sit-at-home annually on May 30 to commemorate the dead of those who lost their lives in the struggle.

Mr Umahi while addressing the people at the 2018 democracy day celebration on Tuesday threatened to permanently forfeit the shop of any trader in the state who obeys the order from IPOB.

Mr Umahi who said such order would not be observed his state noted that the manner in which IPOB was pursuing its course was not right as the Ohaneze Ndigbo took the right action in the comity of Ibo sons and daughters.

“We do not need distractions or second colonisation as we continue to believe in God to change our narrative with no man born of a woman setting us back.

“Any trader that closes shop on the day will forfeit it forever and any protest will be decisively dealt with.

“Ebonyi indigenes should go about their businesses peacefully and safely and if the South-East governors say we don’t want IPOB activities, it does not mean that we are happy with the zone’s marginalisation in the country.

“We call on the Federal Government to look into the plight of South-east and address the issue of marginalisation because we believe in one Nigeria that will enshrine justice and fairness.

“We also believe in the sanctity of human lives and call on the citizens to cooperate in ensuring the growth and development of the state and country,” he said.

Mr Umahi during the occasion to reeled out his government’s achievements in education, health, agriculture, infrastructure development, commerce and industry and human empowerment among other sectors.

However, the Deputy Coordinator of the Biafra separatists in the state, Mr. Ugochukwu Nweke, vowed that it would implement its sit-at-home order in all parts of the state

“What I am saying is that our activities will go on tomorrow as planned all over the world, not only here in Ebonyi. Government has no right whatsoever to takeover anybody’s shop on the grounds of closing their shop to honour the sit-at-home order.

“Our activities tomorrow will be monitored through our searchlight. Government has no power to give such order. We are going ahead to carry out our activities tomorrow. Nobody can stop us from doing that,” vowed Nweke.
